The governor’s outrage followed the sudden withdrawal of police personnel from the 65th Independence Day celebration in Kano – a move he described as disgraceful, unprofessional, and disloyal to the Nigerian state.

Speaking at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Governor Yusuf blasted the CP for boycotting a national event that symbolises unity and patriotism. “This is sabotage, this is partisanship, this is betrayal of the Nigeria Police Force’s constitutional duty”, he declared.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Yusuf accused Bakori of consistently aligning with political forces against the will of Kano people, branding him a “political police officer” who has eroded public trust.

The Governor said Kano stakeholders – including traditional rulers, lawmakers, labour unions, youth groups, and business leaders – have joined in demanding Bakori’s immediate removal and replacement with a neutral officer.

While commending other security agencies for their participation in the celebration, Yusuf stressed that Kano remains peaceful and will not tolerate any attempt by compromised officials to destabilise the state.
